UPS Delivery, Day 2 – Worst
The woman last night promised an early-morning delivery, but by 8:30 AM, my package still wasn’t here. I called the 1800 number, and they said they’d have the local station call me by 10 AM.
10:00
Still no call from the local station. I call the 1800 number again. They say they’ll have the local station call me.
12:30
Still no call from the local station. I call the 1800 number again. They say they’ll have the local station call me.
1:20
The local station finally calls and says the package is on the truck. The supervisor gives me her phone number.
5:50
Package still not here. I call the supervisor at the local station. She says she’ll call me back.
6:00
The supervisor calls. The package will arrive soon, she says.
6:15 PM
The driver calls on phone. He says he’s outside. I run out. He is ambling — AMBLING — down the street. I try to grab my package as fast as possible, but he wants to start a conversation!!! Needless to say, I don’t give him a tip.
My Questions:
1. How did my package get delivered to the wrong address in the first place?
2. Why do I have to keep going through the 1800 number in order to talk to the local delivery station?
3. Why is the story at the 1800 number always different from the story at the local delivery station? (1800 number says a government agency has embargoed my package, while the local station says the driver said I wasn’t home.)
4. Why do they overpromise? (“They’ll call you in 30 minutes.” “It’ll be delivered early tomorrow morning.”)
5. Why do UPS drivers keep reporting on their handhelds that I am not home when I am? (I work at home! I follow online tracking. If a package is going to be delivered, I wait for it.)
6. Why do online retailers put up with UPS? I paid for 2nd-day shipping but UPS doesn’t guarantee 2nd-day delivery.
I wasted money (cell phone and mail delivery charges) and two days of waiting for a package to be delivered from an online retailer. I should have just gone to a bricks-and-mortar store.
