Test Kitchen LA Kicks Off Latin Week!
On Monday, October 4th, Evan Kleiman and Bill Esparza will host a special Street Food Mondays at Test Kitchen. Street Food Mondays is a collaborative effort between chef and cookbook author Evan Kleiman and Bill Esparza of Street Gourmet LA to promote street food awareness in Los Angeles and bring street food to neighborhoods and Angelenos lacking exposure to LA’s vibrant street food scene.
This special tasting at Test Kitchen will feature Chef Sergio Penuelas of Mariscos Chente’s, owned by Connie Cossio, previewing menu items and a contemporary style of Sinaloan and Nayaritan cuisine for a future location of Mariscos Chente’s. Sergio will be cooking his signature pescado zarandeado (whole grilled fish) over a mesquite grill.
Sergio Penuelas first came to prominence whilst cooking at the Mar Vista location of Mariscos Chente‘s run by his mother-in-law, Magdalena Garcia, where he received critical praise from the Los Angeles Times, LA Weekly’s Jonathan Gold, and many prominent bloggers in Los Angeles. He was mentored by his father-in-law Vicente Cossio in the cuisine of Nayarit seafood: cocktailing, grilling, and cooking. He recently came to work for his sister-in-law, Connie, at the Mariscos Chente’s located at 3544 W. Imperial Highway in Inglewood, CA.
Sergio was born in Los Mochis, Sinaloa, where one of the greatest seafood traditions of Mexico can be found. He has more than 15 years cooking Nayarit -style seafood, but his menu always includes the dishes of his childhood.
This Street Food Mondays appearance kicks off Test Kitchen‘s Latin Week featuring Tijuana’s Javier Plascencia and Ricardo Zarate previewing one of his latest concepts later in October.
Come join Street Food Mondays, Test Kitchen, and Mariscos Chente’s for an updated version of the Nayaritan and Sinaloan kitchen this Monday, October 4th.
Test Kitchen is located at 9575 West Pico Blvd. LA 90035. Dinner is served beginning at 6:00pm, with the last seating at 10:30pm.
