Michael Jackson sells LA Times
Commemorative Section Sunday
Michael Jackson (1958-2009)
I remember the day MJ died. I was just coming back from that godforsaken auction, where I had earlier heard of Farrah Fawcett’s death.
His music provided some of the few joyful moments I had growing up. It is true that music provides escape and inspiration, because I felt that growing up. But these days, I can’t bring myself to even listen to music. When you’re scraping by and devoting every second of your life to making next month’s rent, such pleasures seem so decadent.
Funny though… the people on welfare in our neighborhood listen to Michael Jackson’s songs all day… very loud too… This country is just so frickin’ unfair. The government is only too happy to pay lazy people to keep being lazy. Someday when my financial situation is no longer parlous, I will expose all the things I witnessed while in poverty. The truth is starkly different from the myths being perpetuated by these talking heads on Sunday-morning shows and in the LA Times.
