Happy Mother’s Day (100 Years in 2007)
Sunday, May 13, 2007
Grafton, West Virginia
– the birthplace of Mother’s Day, 1907
Anna Jarvis
- lobbied Woodrow Wilson to make it a holiday, which he did in 1914
- later said it had gotten too commercialized and lobbied against it
(She had trademarked “second Sunday in May” and “Mother’s Day” in 1912.)
What mothers want most is a visit or phone call from their children. They better have been good mothers or their children won’t bother.
