My Favorite Workout DVDs
Anything by Denise Austin but especially her Hit the Spot – 10 Five Minute Target Toners. She’s such a great motivator, and she really knows her stuff. It shocked me to learn that she has had kids. Her body and its strength are unbelievable.
The reason I like Hit the Spot in particular is that it doesn’t involve jumping around, which I don’t like doing. They’re really focused exercises that get every part of your body toned in no time. Plus, the DVD makes it easy to customize a workout, so one day you could do your upper body, the next day a set that works your hips and abs, and then just mix them up according to how your body feels. If your arms are sore from the workout today, concentrate on your butt the next day.
Perfect Abs with Meghan White. Six very simple and focused sets of around eight minutes each. In the spring which is when I really work out, I can do three in one day. I eat a lot but with these, even the definition in your abdominal muscles comes through the layer of fat. Amazing.
Pilates Weight-Loss Workout for Dummies with Tracey Thompson. I had tried Pilates before but just couldn’t get into it. This opened the door for me. Very easy, short (20 minutes) and free of stress. Then I discovered Denise Austin. She’s the Pilates master, but I wouldn’t have accepted Pilates as part of my routine if it wren’t for the Dummies DVD.
Yoga Zone – I’ve only gotten my hands on three in their collection. My favorites are Yoga Zone – Fat Burning (2002) and Yoga Sculpting for Beginners (2001). They’re timeless!
